Pianoz.com was delighted to be approached by YouTube sensation Max Fosh to provide a grand piano for what would become one of the internet's most talked-about treasure hunts. Filmed inside our Maidenhead showroom, the piano became the centrepiece of a musical riddle that held the key to a £100,000 prize – an 18-carat gold fish encrusted with more than 1,700 gemstones. The challenge captivated audiences around the world, with hundreds of thousands of viewers attempting to decipher the clues hidden within the song. The video quickly went viral, generating huge online discussion as amateur detectives searched for the solution.
The treasure hunt was designed to be solvable entirely from the clues contained within the song performed at the piano. Together with fellow creator Joe Jenkins, Max crafted a deliberately eccentric musical performance packed with wordplay, hidden meanings and cryptic references. The eventual solution revolved around a series of spoonerisms and linguistic twists that ultimately directed participants towards the mysterious "Mosh" and the phrase required to claim the prize. While the song itself appeared delightfully absurd, every lyric had been carefully engineered as part of a remarkably clever puzzle.
For Pianoz.com, it was fantastic to see one of our pianos play such an important role in a project that captured the imagination of so many people. Following the video's release, treasure hunters quickly identified the distinctive instrument and began speculating that the piano itself contained hidden clues. The attention generated was extraordinary, with our phones ringing constantly and hundreds of emails arriving from hopeful treasure hunters convinced that the answer lay somewhere inside our showroom. While we couldn't reveal any secrets at the time, it was great fun to be involved in one of the most inventive and entertaining online treasure hunts ever created.
