A Steinway grand piano in a wooden case
This piano is extremely unusual and is from the early evolution of the brand
We have seen many early Steinway pianos over the years but we have never seen a straight strung one before
The piano is marked 1639, but this may a workshop number rather than the serial number. The logo on the fallboard has almost certainly been "modernised" at some point in the past, as the straight strung design predates this logo by quite a few years
The piano was fully restored in 1999 and remains in excellent internal order, with stable tuning and an excellent action and tone
Some fading to the casework from light over time but otherwise good condition
An excellent instrument for early keyboard music enthusiasts who want a stable and fully playable example of a very early instrument from the finest maker of all time
