A Challen baby grand piano in a light wood case
This piano was the property of Eric Morecambe and was owned by him from around 1960 until his death, and remained in his house in Harpenden until the death of his wife last year. We purchased the piano directly from the estate and have the provenance to go with it
Eric Morecambe has the unusual honour of being one of the best known classical pianists in the country despite his limited pianistic abilities due to the enormously successful 1971 Morecambe & Wise Christmas Special Grieg Piano Concerto sketch with Andre Previn. Over 50 years later, the catchphrase "I'm playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order" is still being used by piano teachers and disappointed parents nationwide in exasperation, and the scene is widely regarded as the greatest classical music comedy sketch ever
Despite the Grieg Piano Concerto sketch, Eric Morecambe was actually a keen amateur pianist. The piano is in extremely good working order and has been well looked after and maintained
A once in a lifetime opportunity to own a small piece of music history!
