A Steinway & Sons Hamburg Model Z upright piano from 1938, in a stunning light figured walnut case
Early Model Z Steinways are extremely rare. Being one of the smallest upright pianos Steinway made, they are far more suited to most homes than the enormous Model K and Model V, whilst still retaining the same tonal qualities and design principals expected of a Steinway. The Steinway Model Z became synonymous in later years with the Beatles, with the Steinway Model Z John Lennon owned and wrote "imagine" on selling for $2.4 million at auction
This piano has a figured walnut case which is in exceptional condition for age
Internally, the piano is in superb condition, and the action was renovated in the recent past. It plays and sounds as good as a brand new piano, and has a glorious "golden era" Steinway tone that must be played to be appreciated. The tuning is very stable and the tone is rich and even throughout all registers
Original ivory keyboard in extremely good condition
Overall, an exceptional instrument and one of the most beautiful Steinway upright pianos we have seen for some time
Suitable for professional pianists, recording studios or even an amateur pianist who wants one of the very best upright pianos you can buy
