A Bechstein Model E 9ft concert grand piano in a black polished case
This is a rare Bechstein fullsize concert grand and is believed to date from 1927
For at least the past 50 years the piano was in a small regional concert hall. There are tuning and maintenance logs going back to the 1970s showing that the piano has been well cared for. Due to the loss of council funding, the venue had to close down hence the piano is reluctantly for sale
Very unusually for a Bechstein, this piano has no structural issues - the soundboard, iron frame, wrestplank are in good condition with no visible issues. All tuning pins tight with good tuning stability. It is very rare to find a concert grand piano in mostly original and undamaged structural condition, showing that it has been in a very stable and excellent environment temperature and humidity wise
Hammers, shanks, rollers, repetition levers and damper mechanism replaced in 2001. All strings and tuning pins believed to have been replaced at the same time. It is relatively unusual to see the damper mechanism replaced on restored grand pianos, it is very time consuming to do so and extremely expensive, but has significant benefits for the damping reliability and action feel. This shows the level of care and attention that this piano has received.
Excellent rich tone through all registers, from the bottom right up to the top. Very smooth and fast action
An excellent instrument suitable for all levels of pianist
Casework has some wear and patina in line with being in a concert venue but attractive overall and easily touched up by a competent french polisher should you wish to
