A Hamburg Steinway Model D 274 concert grand piano in an extremely rare mahogany case from 1928

This piano was previously part of the Steinway concert & artist piano bank, used throughout the late 1920s and early 1930s for concerts and undoubtedly played by many top pianists of the era. Only the finest pianos are selected for the concert bank.

This piano was fully restored in the early 2000s, which included full restringing, restoration and shimming of the soundboard, repolishing of the case and most importantly, an entire new action received in one piece from Hamburg Steinway. This means that the action rails, whippens, hammers, shanks and rollers are all in extremely good condition being less than 20 years old. Since restoration, the piano has only had light amateur use and the action shows only minimal wear.

The piano remains in good playing condition, with a rich balanced tone throughout all registers and a good range of tonal colours. A very enjoyable piano with the authentic 'golden era' Steinway tone, and still very capable of playing even the most demanding of virtuoso repertoire. This piano would certainly be of interest to a music student or aspiring concert artist looking for a capable and robust concert grand piano but without the budget for a newly fully restored one

Rare mahogany casework - the vast majority of these pianos were made in black, and most of the wooden finish ones have been refinished in black subsequently. Some light signs of use but overall very good condition for age. For additional cost this piano can either be completely repolished by one of the finest french polishers in the country for an authentic, as-new finish, or refinished in clear polyester for a more durable modern finish with a permanent bright shine whilst still retaining and enhancing the appearance of the veneer.
